Summit Lake Community Church had its beginnings in 1986 when land was donated by Glenn Gentry to establish a church in the newly developing community around Summit Ridge. Don Walker served as the first pastor.

In 1987 land was cleared to make way for a space to meet. The three rustic crosses were erected to mark the presence of the new church. The first services met under a large blue tarp draped between two trees.

In the summer of 1987 plans began for the first permanent building. Construction of the main sanctuary began in 1989 and was completed in 1991.

Tim Dunham became the pastor in 1991. Three more acres were donated and a parsonage was built in 1995. Tim is now serving as a missionary pastor in Thailand.  Scott Christensen became the pastor in November of 2003.

DIRECTIONS:

Summit Lake Community Church is located north of US 160 on state highway 184 in the Four Corners region of Southwest Colorado.  We are about 35 minutes from Durango, 20 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park and 20 minutes from Cortez.  The church is half way between the towns of Mancos and Dolores directly across the highway from Summit Lake.  If you are coming from Durango, stay on 160 until you come to the light in Mancos.  Turn right on 184 and go about 9 miles.  If you are coming from Cortez, take state highway 145 on the east end of town until you come to 184 just before coming to Dolores.  Turn right on 184 heading toward Mancos and go about 9 miles.  Look for the sign and the three wooden crosses next to the highway.
